Life often reflects to us those things that inspire or trigger us. I believe challenges show up to give us coarse corrections in our lives. I am seeing the things I dislike about myself reflected be others which are triggering me. Someone posted the following quote on Facebook which reminded me of things I have learned. We can’t control what happens just how we react to what is happening.
Our birthright as human beings is FREE AGENCY , but with that agency is CHOICE & ACCOUNTABILITY. You can’t take one without the other. We get to choose who we want to be and the life we want to live. Like I have said before thoughts become things. Whatever we think about or concentrate on is what shows up. If we focus on what we don’t want, more of what we don’t what shows up. Then an the following came as a on Facebook that inspired me write this blog. I Choose The Life I Want – I Choose a Life that is Fearless, Fun, Focused, Lovely, Powerful, and Abundant.
The Course in Miracles by Paul Miller states,
“Every decision I make is a choice between a grievance and a miracle. I relinquish all regrets, grievances, and resentments and I choose the miracle.”
Choosing our thoughts and choosing our reactions will take practice. Chose what you want for your self and your life. Focus on what you want and that is what will start or continue showing up. Focus on what you don’t want and that is what will start or continue showing up.
As a parent I don’t like seeing my kids struggle, but I have not been doing them any favors by not facing the consequences and being accountable for their actions. I have helped them with school projects that they waited until the last minute to start, I have cleaned there room, and let them go to their sporting event practice and games when their homework is not done. I have good kids and it is nothing big (yet), but I am also guilty of letting them go to a movie when they have not completed chores because I didn’t wait to waste the movie I paid for a movie ticket. I recognized after a disagreement with Warrior that I am only enabling her and creating a monster.
I believe these memes and quotes are showing up for me as a coarse correction, reminders of my choices. I can choose depression and anxiety or power and joy. I am not saying I won’t ever have bad days, just that I can choose how I react to those bad days. I can choose fear or adventure, impossible or possible, weakness or strengthen. I can choose to be active or reactive, positive or negative, forgiveness or resentment. I can chose to be a leader or a follower. Each time a negative, mean, or destructive thought enters my mind I can choose to accept or reject it. I can live in gratitude and see the blessing and beauty that surrounds me. I can live a life I love.
What are you going to choose?
Today I am choosing love, acceptance, joy and forgiveness!
